Welcome to the Social Justice and the Culinary Tradition Film Series. The guide provides the schedule of three films being shown this semester and highlights books, videos, websites, and other resources related to each film and it's social justice theme.
Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities (Britannica). Food and social justice impact everyone's lives in one way or another. This spring, the Alice Statler Library, in collaboration with the Culinary Arts and Hospitality department, is showing three films that explore the culinary tradition and food systems and the intersection with social justice - specifically how it impacts three different segments of society - women, community and family. A Fine Line explores women and the restaurant industry's historical glass ceiling, Food For the Rest of Us showcases farming and community action and Changing Seasons examines generational differences and family relations between a father and daughter on a farm. Each showing will include a discussion after the film showing.
