Citing Sources : Articles

This guide provides information on citing your sources in some of the most commonly used citation formats: APA, MLA, and Chicago.

MLA 8th Edition Style for citing articles

Journal Article

Author(s). "Title of Article." Title of Journal, vol. #, no. #, Date of Publication, page number(s). Database Name, DOI or URL (use permalink when available and remove https://).

 

Magazine or Newspaper Article

Author(s). "Title of Article." Title of Magazine/Newspaper, Date of Publication, page number(s). Database Name, DOI or URL (use permalink when available and remove https://).

 

Examples of articles cited using MLA 8th edition format

Journal Article

With DOI*:

Castelli, Darla M. et al. " Healthy Outcomes for Teens Project: Diabetes Prevention through Distributed Interactive Learning." Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics,

     vol. 13, no. 3, 2011, pp. 359-64. Gale Academic OneFile, doi:10.1089/dia.2010.0125.

*DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier, which is a permanent alphanumeric code (as seen in the above example) for a published article, similar to an ISBN number for books.

With URL/Permalink:

Yeung, Virginia. "Time and Timelessness: A Study of Narrative Structure in Murakami Haruki's Kafka on the Shore." Mosaic: A Journal for the Interdisciplinary Study

Note: For lesser known newspapers, add the city name in square brackets after the newspaper title.

Magazine:
