Kryssi Staikidis, Professor of Art + Design Education at Northern Illinois University

Dr. Staikidis is an artist and art educator whose focus is decolonizing ethnographic research. She apprenticed with two prominent Maya artists to learn their way of teaching painting to other artists. In this talk Dr. Staikidis will share her experience of a nonhierarchical mentorship between two female artist-teachers from different cultures. She is currently co-editor for the anthology Transforming Our Practices: Indigenous Art, Pedagogies, and Philosophies (2017).
