Welcome to the CCSF Copyright Guide. The purpose of this guide is to support the CCSF community in using copyrighted materials responsibly. It provides guidance for faculty and students and offers an introduction to the topic of creative commons.

The topic of copyright can feel overwhelming and complex. It is intertwined with many activities in an academic environment and it is important for students, faculty, and staff to understand the basics. This guide is designed to help you make informed decisions when using, creating, and sharing information with others. 

CCSF Copyright Policy

The CCSF Board of Trustees maintains the official College Copyright Policy.  Per the San Francisco Community College District Policy Manual:

Title: COPYRIGHT

Number: 8.10

Legal Authority: California Education Code Sections 32360, 32361, 72207 and 81459.

Applicable copyright laws and license agreement provisions shall be observed with respect to the acquisition, use, production and distribution of protected materials in any format or medium in all San Francisco Community College District facilities. The legal and insurance protection of the District will not be extended to employees who knowingly violate such provisions. The Chancellor shall adopt rules and regulations to implement this policy.
