Steps of the Research Process

This guide outlines the four steps of the research process

Find Articles

Periodicals are publications (mostly magazines, journals, or newspapers) that are published periodically (regularly). Periodical articles are typically shorter than books and contain current and specific information. To access periodicals:

  1. Select the Articles tab in OneSearch on the CCSF Library homepage.
  2. Type in the keywords from your research question and click search.
  3. Once your search results load, it's time to filter them!
    • If you need periodicals that are available online, look under the Filter my Results column on the left side and click Available Online
    • Do you need current articles, or articles that were published in the past? Use the tools in the Filter my Results column to narrow down the publication date.
    • What type of articles do you need? Peer-reviewed articles, newspaper articles, conference proceedings? You can select those options from the  "Filter my results" column as well.
  4. Once you find an article of interest, click on its title and follow the prompts to access the article. Once you're "in" the article you will see all kinds of options for printing, saving, citing, and more.
