The OER Starter Kit
This starter kit has been created to provide instructors with an introduction to the use and creation of open educational resources (OER). The text is broken into five sections: Getting Started, Copyright, Finding OER, Teaching with OER, and Creating OER. Although some chapters contain more advanced content, the starter kit is primarily intended for users who are entirely new to Open Education. [Version 1.1. Revised September 5th, 2019.]
The OER Starter Kit Workbook
The OER Starter Kit Workbook is a remix of the OER Starter Kit to include worksheets to help instructors practice the skills they need to confidently find, use, or even create open educational resources (OER). We welcome instructors, librarians, instructional designers, administrators, and anyone else interested in OER to explore the OER Starter Kit Workbook.

OER and Online Learning Faculty Quick-Start Guide
The Faculty Quick Start Guide is an outcome of a project by ISKME, supported by a grant from the Michelson 20MM Foundation, to conduct a study and develop a set of resources to accelerate OER use for distance education, especially the urgent shift to remote learning during the pandemic in 2020. The Guide was created in collaboration with a selection of OER and online education champions across California community colleges (CCC)
OER Commons (Create)
Author and create your own open education resources to share with other educators. The California Community Colleges and CCSF have their own hubs. Check out what your colleagues are up to!
H5P
H5P allows you to create a variety of interactive and mobile-friendly activities that can be integrated into Canvas. The authoring tool has over 35 activity types, including a number of well-established question types, such as multiple choice, fill in the blanks, and true/false, as well as some more unique options such as interactive video, drag and drop, personality quiz, speak the words, and timeline.
OER Attribution Guide from the ASCCC
All Creative Commons licenses require that authors/creators be recognized. The only exception to this is those resources that are in the public domain. Resources that are in the public domain may bear the license CC0 (CC zero) to indicate this status. While many openly licensed resources may request and not require attribution, providing a proper attribution is a recognized best practice.

ASCCC OERI - OER Basics
This self-paced course from the ASCCC serves as an introduction to Open Educational Resources (OER). The course provides faculty with new options for selecting textbooks and other resources so they can make the best decisions for their students. This course is a self-paced version of the ASCCC OERI Introduction to OER Course. At the end of this course successful participants will be able to:

Properly identify the Creative Commons (CC) license on a resource and describe how this resource can and cannot be used.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of open resources using current research in the field as evidence.
Research, analyze, and review repositories of open resources.
Effectively search for open resources and post reviews in an OER repository.
Create an open resource by remixing multiple existing resources and designate a license to this new resource based on the licenses of multiple resources use.

Open Educational Resources are typically licensed with Creative Commons licenses.

Creative Commons helps content creators and share their creative work using varying levels of Creative Commons (CC) licenses. Creative Commons licenses work alongside copyright and allow creators to expand the licenses to make them less restrictive than traditional copyright.

The six different Creative Commons licenses allow work to be used in multiple ways, including copied, remixed, distributed, and adapted in many types of environments, including for commercial use. The various licenses are defined on the Creative Commons website, but the basic outline is provided below. Have questions? Creative Commons Licenses
	BY= Attribution. This is the least restrictive of the licenses. Allows user to remix, adapt and share the work, including commercially. The only stipulation is that the author/creator is given credit and the user indicates where changes were made.
	BY-SA = Attribution-ShareAlike. Allows users to remix, adapt and share work, including for commercial purposes. User can relicense the work, but it it must be identical to the original license.
	BY-ND = Attribution-NoDerivatives. Work can be distributed, including commercially, but cannot be remixed or changed from original state. Author or creator must be credited, as well.
	BY-NC = Attribution-NonCommercial. User is allowed to remix and adapt work, but only for non-commercial purposes. Author or creator must be credited for work.
	BY-NC-SA = Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. User is allowed to remix and adapt work, but only for non-commercial purposes, and author must be given credit for the work. User can relicense the work, but it it must be identical to the original license.
	BY-NC-ND = Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives. Users are allowed to share work, but cannot adapt or remix the work, or use it for commercial purposes. Author must be given credit for their work.
