Clipping

Video clips can enrich your pedagogical practice and course content. Clipping is generally the safest way to incorporate copyrighted video into your online course.

Why should I use video clips?

Conserve class time by focusing on specific segments of a film.
Provide visual prompts for class discussion and dialogue.
Provide compelling visual examples of key concepts.

How do I use video clips?

Be strategic and focus on how clips will enhance specific course content.
Keep clips short and only use as much is needed.

How do I create clips?

Films on Demand provides predefined segmentation for the majority of their videos. You can also create and store custom segments within your personal account. You must be logged in to your personal account to access this feature.

Create a custom segment

Go to Films on Demand and log in to your personal account under Your Profile.
Search for a video and click on Segments under the video player.
Cue the video to where your custom segment should begin and click on Set Start Time.
Play the video to where your custom segment should end and click on Set End Time.
Enter a title for your custom segment and click on the Create Segment button.
Go to My Content to view a list of your custom segments. See also Custom Segments in the record for the full title.

You must be logged into your personal Docuseek account to access the clipping and playlist tools. Unique links are generated for custom clips and playlists.

Create a clip

Go to Docuseek and access your personal account under "Log in."
Click on "My Docuseek" and then "Licensed Films."
Select your video and click on "Make a clip" under the video player.
Cue the video to where your custom segment should begin and click on "Start clip."
Play the video to where your custom segment should end and click on "Stop clip."
Enter a title and description for your clip.
Select "Keep private" or "Share with your institution" then click on the "Save clip" button.
Go to "My Docuseek"and click on the Clips/Playlists/Searches tab to access user-created content.

New Day Films does not provide a clipping tool.

Swank does not provide a clipping tool due to licensing and usage restrictions.
